Stuff that makes you go “Duh!”

I had a little problem this morning. It’s not a big problem but it was still a little harrowing. I was to suppose to have a self study session this morning but alas, I hit upon a little snag. My supervisor gave me a couple of files to peruse, some pdf’s and a few MS Word files and one really big MS Powerpoint file. Anyway, I had no problem with the pdf’s. I finished it quickly. Reading is not much of a problem with me, as I love it. Anyway, the snag was with both the MS Office files. He was using MS Office 2007. The company issued laptop I had was, naturally, using MS Office 2003. Figures. Ahhh… compatibility issues. One of the issues I love the most. I mean, it’s the same program, why would it need to have a different extension? Naturally, I couldn’t open the files, which actually made me a little happy as I will have nothing else to do for the rest of the morning. However, I had to do something and other supervisors (mine left for a meeting, how convenient) was loitering around. I didn’t want them to see me doing nothing so I had to find a way to open the files. Officemates were no help as they also had MSO 2003. I then consulted the almighty internet and found a solution. Ironically, the solutions I needed, I found in my friend’s site, Techy Kid (which is in my blogroll). He listed a couple of sites that helps you convert docx to doc files. I actually tried both, just for the heck of it. It worked great and (unfortunately) now I had something to do. So if you’re in a jam (this particular one, not strawberry), then just head on to Techy Kid for the solution.
